  • the iMac has arrived and is in use.
    that's all i've got.

i'm feeling stuck and hopeless...and although i know that's not truth, i'm having a hard time identifying what truth may be. i'm questioning my validity as a wife...and, consequently, as a mother. i hate coming face to face with my own inadequacies and feeing powerless to do anything.

my kids are screaming over a guitar and it is taking everything in me to get up and do something about it.

  • i may have been replaced

patrick informed me yesterday that he is taking over lucy's education.  "i'm gonna start teaching her," he announced.
    ok, sure...
before i knew it, she was armed with a notebook and patrick was giving her assignments.  at bedtime he even told her what to read and how long to read it.  his role was so effective that when she was ignoring my instructions, i told patrick to deal with her.  he did.  she listened.
today, before he left for school, he gave lucy a list of sight words (today's list was should, could, and would) and instructed her to practice writing them.  then he turned to me and said, "mom, can you make sure she puts spaces in between her words?"
    ok,...sure...
interestingly enough, lucy made sure she took some time before lunch to practice her words.  and the first thing patrick did when he got home was check them.  "um, lucy, you left out the 'l' on this word...," he noticed.
a little while ago, i heard him say, "lucy, just wait til this summer!"

  • straight from the horse's mouth

i could tell you what tucker had to say about the whole experience...but what fun would that be?

    yes, he's fine...
the dr decided that chuck's idea to blow in tucker's mouth to dislodge the lego was a good one - so he let chuck try it.  it did help...but did not solve the problem.  thankfully, it loosened the piece enough that the dr was able to then remove it with some sort of long, skinny device.  i really hope this doesn't mark the beginning of a very long and blood-pressure-raising childhood.

  • adventures in tuckerland

just when i thought it was safe.
as my youngest has gotten older, i've naively assumed i was in the clear regarding some catastrophes.

that is, until chloe brought tucker to us with the report that he had stuck a lego up his nose.  way up his nose.  chuck tried to get it with tweezers but to no avail.

they're on their way to patient first right now.  my older children are shocked and dismayed - it never would have occurred to them to try that.

    more to follow...
